A detailed look at the No.73 Routemaster bus. The No.73 bus runs from Victoria station to Tottenham. The Routemaster was first built in 1954 and celebrated its 50th birthday in June 2004. The bus is manned by a driver and a conductor. Often they work in teams for regular shifts. The driver sits in a cab completely isolated from the rest of the bus. he or she uses mirrors and the bell in addition to the road ahead to drive the bus. The conductor occupies the entire bus but his or her place is in the 'cubby hole' near the platform. In this space, the conductor can see people getting on or off, and as well as wathcing people on the lower deck he or she can see via the mirror on the stair, the people upstairs too. The conductor communicates with the driver using this bell. One bell means stop at the next stop. Two bells mean go from the stop. Three bells mean the bus is full so don't stop and more than three bells means an emergency stop is needed.
