INCITE - is an Incubator for critical inquiry into technology and ethnography. It is a creative interdisciplinary research lab interested in research projects which explore the socio-cultural dimensions of technology use and design.

The lab is located in the Sociology Department of the University of Surrey - though we have just opened out new London based studio space.

We have a website and a research blog where we update news, our research projects, events, exhibitions and other things we find interesting.

We often host talks, events and workshops. Recent ones include:

- Kris Cohen presented his Photos Leave Home Research to the Sociology Dept at UniS - a podcast of his talk is available here.

- INCITE/RCA collaboration: a week long collaborative experiment in which sociologists were paired with interaction designers

- INCITE/INTEL Privacy Workshop: two day workshop on Privacy and Technology with INTEL's People' and Practices Research Lab members (PAPR) and visiting faculty

INCITE is made up of PhD students, research fellows and visiting scholars working on projects about online music, photoblogging, cyber cafes, digital cameras, online education and more. The group is run by Nina Wakeford and members include:

Kris Cohen - in 2004/05 he was awarded an ESRC research grant to study personal photgraphs online - Photos Leave Home

Gerard Oleksik - post graduate student exploring digital music in the home with BBC Online Music

Steve Smith - post graduate student exploring digitial photography and branding
