"Is that you Grandma?"The bus was packed when the piercing 'disco' mobile phone ring peeled out over the lower deck. There was some quick fumbling in a bag before a woman answered it.
"Hello.."
"Is that you Grandma?"
She laughs loudly and with delight. "It is you Grandma. It's me Cheryl"
"Did you press the wrong button again Grandma?"
"I'm on a bus..... going home... yes a very busy day.."
"How are you Grandma?"
The conversation carried on the for the rest of my journey. I and the rest of the bus heard 15minutes of Cheryl's conversation with Grandma. Her voice and laughter carried over the engine and city noise.
I smiled at the woman sitting beside Cheryl who also found the dominating conversation and Cheryl's oblivious-ness to the inclusion of the rest of the bus quite funny. Posted by: Kat | Feb 27, 2004 |Islington.

Discomfort. The conductor yells, ‘Move right inside please’ and ‘seats upstairs’. There is much swapping of positions. People scramble off, swap seats, move up and downstairs, on and off the bus. A large man opposite me is taking up two seats as he can only sit on the aisle. He moves to take an aisle seat next to another passenger so the window seat is free. He balances uncomfortably on a shared seat. Posted by: Kat | June 10, 2003. Tottenham Court Road to Newington Green.
