| 73 bus stops | Gower Street
Sensory cues. A tube traveller descends from the city into another world, a subterranean space unaltered by time or day. Stations provide constant and easily recognisable cues - Kings cross, Inslington, Holborn. Bus stops, in contrast, require a seasoned eye, route experience or a
sympathetic conductor to point them out. It is difficult to know, when you are new to an area, even which side of the road to start the journey. Once this knowledge is acquired a bus traveller uses a conflation oif sensory skills to negotiate the bus and its route through the city - such as visual landmarks, density of traffic, sounds and smells. |
