Producing New Technologies | SOC 334

INTRODUCTION

Week 1

Semester One

Week 2

Session 5 (5th Oct)
- The Work of Design

What do designers actually do? Are they concerned with mere surface styling of a product, or do they play a more important role in the development of new technologies? We will look at the dimensions of design culture – its norms and work practices – and see how they might be important in understanding another aspect of the cultures of production. This session will provide the background to the case studies in Sessions 6 and 8.
