TECHNOLOGIES: STUDIES AND STRATEGIES POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE

9th December 2004
University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey

New Technologies have brought about new levels of interest in methodological strategies for defining, understanding and representing online spaces and practices. Empirical research has adapted traditional research methods for virtual use and developed new and innovative 'tools of the trade'. This one day conference is designed as a forum for discussing and debating the methodological and analytical challenges, pitfalls and potentials of social research involving new information and communication technologies. Targeted at postgraduate students of sociology, cultural anthropology and related disciplines the conference will provide a forum to engage in discussions relating to research in and of online spaces.

Papers should focus on the methodological strategies employed by the research and explore the practical and analytical challenges and opportunities presented by ICTs in the research process.

Conference organisers:
Kate Orton-Johnson and Steve Smith
